TakeHomeHQ builds free, accurate take-home pay calculators for UK contractors and freelancers. Our goal is simple: help you understand exactly what you keep from a contract before you sign it, without sign-ups, spam or confusing jargon.

Why we built this

Most contractor calculators are either out of date, hide their assumptions, or bury you in upsells. We wanted a tool that is transparent about the numbers it uses, works instantly in your browser, and never asks for your email. Every calculation runs locally on your device — we never see or store the figures you enter.

How we keep figures accurate

Tax rules change every year. We treat the tax rates that power our calculators as versioned data, checked against official HMRC and gov.uk sources for each tax year. The current calculators use rest-of-UK rates for the 2025/26 tax year, last verified in June 2026. When rates change, we update the underlying data and note the date on each page.

Important: this is not tax advice

Our calculators provide estimates for comparison and education. They deliberately simplify some real-world details — student loans, pension contributions, benefits in kind and Scottish income tax bands among them. They are not a substitute for personalised advice from a qualified accountant or from HMRC. Always confirm your specific position before making financial decisions.
